As spring arrives in March, artist TAO Ya-Lun will be present at the exhibition venue to watch together with the audience the video documentation of Drifter Project. Following the screening, he will join an informal post-screening conversation, speaking freely about the work—and about himself.

A quick online search of TAO Ya-Lun reveals an impressive list of exhibitions, museum collections, and awards—so extensive that one has to scroll for quite a while to reach the end. As a pioneer of new media art in Taiwan, he is an internationally active artist whose works have been exhibited in museums around the world. His practice is consistently marked by rigorous philosophical inquiry and critical reflection—profound, challenging, and thought-provoking.

Such titles and descriptions may seem intimidating at first. Yet once you read the curatorial statements for his solo exhibitions or hear him speak in person, another side emerges. His language is direct and unadorned; he simply says what he wants to say and does what he wants to do. At heart, he is a straightforward person—almost boyish in spirit.

The work Drifter Project can certainly be discussed through many theoretical frameworks. But listening to an artist whose language is plain, whose thinking is lucid, and who speaks freely from one thought to another is an experience far more intriguing.

On the afternoon of Saturday, March 14, we warmly invite you to Gallery de sol to hear why TAO Ya-Lun chose to undertake this project—an endeavor that may appear light-hearted at first glance, yet is in fact difficult and far-reaching in meaning.
