Gallery de Sol has been dedicated to the promotion of original printmaking art for years, and focusing on exploring the beauty and brilliance of printmaking through the perspective of materials. The gallery has brought original prints of renowned artists such as Picasso, Miró, Chagall, Tamayo, and Kiyoshi Hasegawa to Taiwanese audiences. Meanwhile, Gallery de Sol has also been introducing the works of outstanding contemporary Taiwanese printmakers to the international stage. In 2025, the gallery began its international journey from Germany, the birthplace of intaglio printmaking, with YANG Chung-Ming’s solo exhibition “Beyond Ink.” This marks Gallery de Sol’s debut participation in Art Karlsruhe 2025, one of Germany’s most important contemporary art fairs with over 20 years of history, making it the first Taiwanese gallery to exhibit at this prestigious event.
Yang Chung-Ming has been passionate about printmaking since he was an undergrad student, and for over 20 years, he has been in search of a “path that only printmaking can traverse.” He aims to respond to this ancient medium as a “contemporary artist.” Whether drawing inspiration from nature, traditional culture, blending with music, film, and literature, or collaborating with other crafts such as papermaking, metalworking, and mechanical arts, Yang prioritizes thoughts over material and emotion over technique. He infuses traditional printmaking with contemporary concept, making him the best interpreter of the statement of “Print Creation Art” proposed by Gallery de Sol.
The exhibition “Beyond Ink” will center around Yang’s 2023 collaboration with the Taiwan Forestry Research Institute, introducing this series “Flora of Formosa,” Taiwan’s unique contemporary printmaking works—ink-free works—to European audiences and collectors. This will showcase to the world that Taiwan not only participates in the field of printmaking art but is also making efforts as pioneer.
